Author's Interview with Hannah Fan

Before we dive into our exciting conversation with today’s remarkable author, let’s start by getting to know the creative mind behind the diverse and captivating stories.

1. Could you please introduce yourself to us?

My name is Hannah Fan, and I am a huge advocate of mental health. I believe there is a mental health revolution coming, as it is spoken more commonly about in mainstream media. Everyone born on this planet is worthy of love and acceptance, and the sooner we can love and accept ourselves, the sooner we can believe in our own self-worth and self-esteem. I hope to help everyone understand these basic fundamentals since this was never taught to us in school and is still wildly underrepresented in many cultures globally.

2. Congratulations on your book! What inspired you to write it?

Fifteen years of self-help and therapy. I learned to figure out who I am as a person and how to build my own foundation of self-worth and self-love. I've been inspired by many authors and researchers like Brene Brown and Steven Covey.

3. What is your book about?

It first launches into the differences of Stress, Anxiety, Depression, and being Highly Sensitive. Then, it describes the ego and the role it plays in our lives. After that,t it talks about the differences between self-worth and self-confidence. It helps to explain why we operate the way we do. It also describes many tactics backed by scientific research on how to calm our negative self-talk and how to change our mental brains into a more positive one. Lastly, it talks about relationships and how to find your true self.

4. Why did you choose this genre for your book?

Mental health has always been a super passionate project of mine, and I hope that by documenting the things I've learned and my journey as a daughter to first generation Taiwanese immigrants that I can help others in my shoes understand themselves, the feelings that they're having, and how to show up for themselves.

5. How long did it take you to complete the book?

I started writing in May of 2024 and completed the first manuscript by October of 2024. Then, it took a couple of months for copy editing, design, and formatting. Finally launching in December of 2024.

6. What makes your book special?

I believe it touches on, at a high level, many concepts that psychologists and mental health advocates speak about in a wide variety of ways. It has actionable steps that allow the reader to start using on day one of reading my book.

7. When can we expect your next book?

I'm actually hoping to start a fantasy series! I've always loved reading fantasy such as Lord of the Rings, Ender's game series, Mistborn and Stormlight, so I hope to co-write a series with my Husband.

8. Did you experience writer’s block while writing? What advice would you give to others who face it?

I didn't really experience writer's block. I told myself to write 1,000 words per day, and that's what I did for about 3 months. Then I went back and edited and changed around sections to make the flow better, and BAM! I had a book done!

9. Besides being a talented author, what are your other hobbies?

I love spending time traveling, being a big foodie, and being outdoors. Some of my many hobbies include camping, weight lifting, acroyoga, yoga, rock climbing, pickleball, playing video games and spending time with friends and family.

10. Last but not least, how did you feel during this interview?

I felt great! I'm excited to get my first book published and looking forward to writing more in the future.
