Author's Interview with Jeffrey Hunton

Before we dive into our exciting conversation with today’s remarkable author, let’s start by getting to know the creative mind behind the diverse and captivating stories.

1. Could you please introduce yourself to us?

I am J Thomas Hunton. I was born in the beautiful state of Maine and lived there until I was a teenager. Due to family circumstances, I ended up in Texas for a few years until I joined the Army at age 17.

After 3 years in the Army, I left the military and went to college for a while until I could no longer support myself and my girlfriend. We married, and I joined the Navy.

I spent the next 17 years in the Navy, traveling to many places. I spent 5 years in Italy and traveled throughout Europe and some of the Middle East.

I retired from the Navy in 1996 as a Navy Chief Petty Officer. After the Navy, I spent some time working in the electronics field and then the construction field in Massachusetts.

In 2002, I published my first book named ‘Marscape’. Although it didn’t do well, I learned much from it. Namely, you need marketing to sell books.

In 2003, we moved to Florida, and I worked in the construction field until I went on disability. In 2015, we moved back to Massachusetts to be with our grandchildren.

In 2019, I lost my love to cancer and went through the normal grieving process until 2021, when I met my current wife, Barbara. We moved to Florida in 2022, where we currently live.

2. Congratulations on your book! What inspired you to write it?

I can’t truly say that any one thing inspired it. I have always been interested in space and the possibility of time travel. I have read many books from sci-fi to horror and love the Star Trek shows. I watch ancient aliens and have always questioned religion and science. I had the idea for this book for several years but only recently felt well enough to write it.

3. What is your book about?

It’s about the maiden voyage of a new starship called Asteria and her crew. They are sent out to encounter an anomaly that appeared in the solar system.

The anomaly ends up being intelligent and warns them about an entity called the darkness. After sending them on a journey through time and space, they confront the entity.

The rest is in the book, and you have to read it to find out more.

4. Why did you choose this genre for your book?

It was obviously a sci-fi novel.

5. How long did it take you to complete the book?

Around 3 months

6. What makes your book special?

It is true sci-fi, not dystopian. I loved reading Asimov and Heinlein and many others of that generation. Too much of what I read today is about the technology, not about the humans involved with it. I attempted to humanize it a bit as well as including the technology and adventure of space travel.

7. When can we expect your next book?

My next book is due out in a month or so. It is the second book in this series called ‘Displacement: Time Matters’ I will also release a book named ‘Marscape: Revisited’ based on my first novel with updated scenes soon.

8. Did you experience writer’s block while writing? What advice would you give to others who face it?

Writer's block happens to everyone. I have begun using AI to help me through those periods. I don’t use it to write the book, but it helps point me in a direction when I am at a loss.

9. Besides being a talented author, what are your other hobbies?

I am part of a musical group called ‘Six River Band’ as the rhythm guitar player and lead singer. I also involve myself with another musical venue called ‘Front Porch Pickers’

I spend time repairing computers and developing websites for people.

10. Last but not least, how did you feel during this interview?

Lost. I am not good at talking about myself. But I was also comfortable with it. Thanks for your time!
