My Take:

The Winning Smash: A story of a boy who smashes all the odds to fulfill his dreams is the debut book written by Akshay Gupta and it's a story of amazement.

The book has a unique story that is full of emotions, heartbreak, greed, lust, regret, lie, the reality of life, and passion. The book is a short read and can be done in one setting.

I liked the way the author Akshay has written this story in a lucid and smooth flow, due to which it was easy to imagine and feel the experiences the life of the characters. Though I wish that the author should have not ended the book so soon, I felt like there could have been more but alas don't we all feel the same after finishing a great story? :)

The cover of the book is eye catchy and the storyline is interesting. I also loved reading the author’s interview. Click here and read now the author's note and the upcoming projects.

Author's Interview by Akshay Gupta

First, before we move forward with our Authors Interview, I would like to start with an introduction.

1. Could you please introduce yourself to us?
I am Akshay Gupta, B. Tech in mechanical engineering. Author of the bestseller book “The winning Smash”. I am also yoga lover and people call me poetry king.
2. Congratulations on your book. So what inspired you to write this book?
Thank you very much. This story is very close to my heart. This story is inspired by one of my cousins. He has seen many grieve since his childhood his mother left him after his birth and his father expired when he was 10 years old but he did not lose his courage and he is still fighting with his life.
3. What is the book all about?
This book is all about a teen boy Dhruv, who is an orphan. He wants to be a National badminton player since his childhood but through his journey, he passes many bad phases such as losing his father, drug addiction, and Drug rehab centre but he did not lose his courage and he overcomes every obstacle of his life to complete his dream.
4. Why did you choose this genre for your book?
I want to motivate young people of the world. Nowadays youth are becoming very less patient with their goals. They need everything with just one click, If they did not get what they want, they become inpatients and become suicidal also. I want to tell them that life is not a bed of roses. To get something you have to keep patience and you have to fight at every step of your life.
5. How much time did it take to complete this book?
It took 3 months to complete this book and all thanks to my mentor Sweta Samota. If she didn't guide me, this idea couldn't take the shape of a book.
6. What makes your Book Special?
The dedication of my protagonist to achieving his dreams makes this book very special.
7. When is your second book coming?
I am working on a project. It would become in April 2023.
8. While writing did you get any writers block? What is the Tip that you will give others who are facing writer's block?
Ya, I faced many writer's blocks. First of all self-doubt, I was not sure I can deliver my message to my audience appropriately. The second is the lack of consistency because I am a teacher also so It's very difficult for me to manage my time. But I want to give only a tip to my fellow writers If something is important to you, you have to be consistent. It doesn't matter if you are giving 10 minutes or an hour in a day but you have to be consistent and don't think too much, nobody is perfect in this world. If you feel you can write then take your laptop and start writing.
9. Apart from being a talented author, what are your other hobbies?
I love to travel, and I am a yoga lover also. And I am a poet also. When I got spare time I love to write poetry as well.
10. Last but not the least, How did you feel, while giving this interview?
Well, I am feeling fantastic about getting interviewed by you. I am feeling my hard work is paying me.

Author's Interview by Kamal Niranjan.

First, before we move forward with our Authors Interview, I would like to start with an introduction.

1. Could you please introduce yourself to us?
Hello New Book Reviewer! I hope you are doing well. Firstly, thank you for having me in this interview. I am Kamal Niranjan, working as an IT professional. I am from Bangalore and an avid reader of books on Indian history and mythology. So, that is pretty much about me in a nutshell.
2. Congratulations on your book. So what inspired you to write this book?
Thank you so much! The major inspiration was Amar Chitra Katha that we all love and devour (not literally!) as kids. The wonderful drawings of two horse-riding brothers, Hakka & Bukka, portrays their journey of humble beginnings and how they eventually rose to establish an empire that lasted for 300 years! Little did I know that these comics, in my later years, would inspire me to write a feature-length novel and present it today to readers and history aficionados.
3. What is the book all about?
Hakka & Bukka – Dawn of the Vijayanagara Empire is an underdog story that delves into the lives of these lesser-known heroes of the Sangama dynasty. These valiant brothers rose from the ashes of defeat and their sorrowful past to herald a golden period in medieval Indian history that lasted for three centuries. This is about their beginnings and the birth of Vijayanagara – the Land of Victory.
4. Why did you choose this genre for your book?
I love Indian history. My mother was a social studies teacher in a school, which was also a reason for my interest in it. We have often felt what the ACK comics depicted about the Vijayanagara Empire, and what information our history books provided back then, were not even remotely connected. I felt our school textbooks had omitted a major portion, for reasons known to them, of the Vijayanagara Empire's invaluable contribution to our Indian heritage.
5. How much time did it take to complete this book?
The initial planning and research took me 2-3 months. This involved gathering information on the dates & events, collating facts and placing them chronologically. This also involved me in reading thesis and history books on medieval India by esteemed historians (details of which are in the 'References' section of my novel) to enrich the quality of writing and presentation to the best possible extent. With these details and a basic storyline, I embarked on an 8 month-long writing journey by adding a bit of fiction to history, thus resulting in the book belonging to the Historical Fiction genre. Then the complete manuscript was followed by a few rounds of self-editing before handing it over to an editor and then publishing the book.
6. What makes your Book Special?
This book is a one of its kind historical fiction that describes a lesser-known portion of our medieval Indian history which deserves a wider platform to convey it to the readers and general public alike, and what better way for me than to present it to all of you in the form of a book we'd always love to grab and read anytime.
7. When is your second book coming?
My first book has opened avenues to explore a few more personalities in Indian history who deserve better visibility as they remain unknown to a large part of our country let alone the world. These ideas are quite exciting, and if God willing I get a chance to write about them in the future either as a novel or novella.
8. While writing did you get any writer's block? What is the Tip that you will give others who are facing a writer's block?
Of course, I had my fair share of writer's block. A suggestion that I can share from my writing experience is to have faith in your material and the patience to wait for ideas that can help complete your manuscript. Frankly speaking, my writing journey has been enriching and humbling. I feel grateful for this God-given opportunity to write this magnum opus in a short span of 8 months – a blessing that I will cherish for a lifetime!
9. Apart from being a talented author, what are your other hobbies?
Thank you, you are too kind to call me talented! But to answer your question, I read, write and do pencil sketching.
10. Last but not the least, How did you feel, while giving this interview?
To sum it up in one word – Fantastic! I also wish to thank you for giving me this opportunity to describe not only my novel but also an untold part of Indian history. Keep up the good work!

The Last Faoii by Tahani Nelson

The Story:

The Last Faoii is the powerful and immersive introduction to the Faoii Chronicles.

The Faoii have protected Clearwall with both magic and blade for generations. But when her monastery is attacked and her sisters slaughtered, only young Kaiya is left alive.

Forced to cope without the traditions of her Order, Kaiya travels the country on a mission to avenge her sisters and preserve her heritage. The search brings her not only to dark discoveries and ancient family secrets but also to something she never wanted or dreamed of: an estranged brother.

Thrust into a war at the heart of a broken empire, the siblings face a dark past and darker future while Kaiya learns the true state of the world outside her monastery's walls, the true threat of the army seeping across the land, and her own innate abilities as the last of her kind.

If you love immersive world-building, empowering characters, and epic battle scenes, you'll love The Last Faoii.

My take:

The Last Faoii is the first book in the series of the Faoii Chronicles written by Tahani Nelson and it's the most compelling and addictive book I have ever read.

I have always admired a book or a movie with a strong female character and from start to end, this book has it all. From action to mystery, from emotions to unknown family, from enemies to warriors, this book has it all making it mesmerizing story.

This book is based on a strong female warrior. Everything you have ever known about the warriors, the strength, the decision making, the lose, the victory, the suspense, the sacrifice, the doubts, achievements, growth, and self-awareness, this book The last Faoii has it all, a loveable character who will make a place in your hearth with her emotions and dedications.

The best thing that I liked the most about this story is the oath the warriors (Faoii) take. I m sure the author has given a lot of effort and thought behind it to make it so compelling. When I read it for the first time and the second and the third, continuing building something in me, as I read it for the last time, I got goosebumps and felt like the Faoii inside was risen. The suspense built and the way the story was moving are simply amazing, written in lucid language that will make you feel lost in the book.

I also loved reading the author’s interview, so inspiring and full of dreams. Click here and be ready now.

Author's Interview with Tahani Nelson

First, before we move forward with our Authors Interview, I would like to start with an introduction.

1. Could you please introduce yourself to us?
My name is Tahani Nelson, and I write female-led military fantasy. With hundreds of 5-star reviews and an ever-growing army of Faoii at my back, most people know me from author events, Renaissance festivals, news programs, and conventions across the US-- probably because I'm always wearing full armor and a face resplendent with war paint. While my most notable appearances have been at the Indie Audiobook Awards and Fantasycon discussion panels, I also give presentations about empowerment and creating strong, healthy female role models in modern media.
2. Congratulations on your book. So what inspired you to write this book?
I grew up on Fantasy books. I’ve loved them for as long as I can remember. But I never really felt represented in classic fantasy. It always seemed that women fell into one of three categories: 1) They were damsels in distress. 2) They were a love interest. 3) Sometimes they WOULD be the amazing heroine I hoped for–but then about halfway through the book they’d meet a guy and decide to make out with him on some blood-soaked battlefield, forgetting whatever grand wars or internal conflicts they’d faced up until that point.

It was boring. And sometimes nauseating.

So what do you do when you can’t find the book you’re looking for? You write it yourself.

The Faoii Chronicles were built from that idea: I wanted to write the heroines that younger me wanted to read. I wanted to finally have the representation in military fantasy that I craved so desperately in my youth. I wanted to feel empowered and heard by the women in my books, and I wanted them to have grander goals than simply marriage.

I also wanted them to wear armor that actually covers their vital organs.

Is that really so much to ask?

Now I dress up in armor and sign books in all sorts of different places for all sorts of different people. We’re all capable of making a difference in our own lives– I just think it’s easier to do with a sword than a glass slipper.
3. What is the book all about?
The Last Faoii is a powerful and immersive introduction to the Faoii Chronicles.

If you like immersive world-building, empowering characters, and epic battle scenes, you'll love The Last Faoii.
4. Why did you choose this genre for your book?
I love epic battle scenes and stories that span entire continents or affect generations. Writing Epic/Military fantasy allows me to create characters that lead armies and forge destinies, and then to explore the deeper implications of societal change.
5. How much time did it take to complete this book?
The Last Faoii took me 5 years to write. The sequels, Faoii Betrayer and Faoii Ascended, took 3 years and 18 months, respectively.
6. What makes your Book Special?
Fantasy and particularly Military Fantasy have historically been male-centric genres. The Faoii Chronicles subvert tropes and give other underrepresented heroes a chance to shine. Beyond that, I've won several awards for world building and prose. When you read the Faoii Chronicles, you don't just get a book-- you become part of the Faoii Army.
7. When is your mext book coming?
Faoii Betrayer came out in 2020 and Faoii Ascended came out in 2021. After the series was completed, I had enough people ask for more that I also released a supplemental anthology filled with fan-requested short stories. Now the complete Faoii Chronicles are available in ebook, paperback, hardback, and audiobook formats!
8. While writing did you get any writers block? What is the Tip that you will give others who are facing a writer's block?
I struggled with Writers Block a lot. A lot of the problem was that I expected too much of myself, so I was often afraid to even start. Everyone else I knew was writing 2000-5000 words a night, and I knew I'd never be able to hit those high numbers, so a lot of the time I wouldn't write anything at all. I was also so afraid of my first drafts not being "good enough," and that kept me paralyzed.
So I started making smaller goals. I told myself I'd write 200 words a night. It only took a couple of minutes, so I knew I could get it done everyday, and if I thought what I wrote wasn't "good enough" I could just delete it without thinking I'd lost a lot of ground. Surprisingly, 200 words was just enough to usually enough to break the dam, and once I started I'd often keep going. Sometimes I would only write the 200, but I NEVER wrote nothing at all. And after a few years, I had all 3 books published. Little goals add up.
9. Apart from being a talented author, what are your other hobbies?
I'm really involved in a lot of Renaissance Festivals in the US. I also like videogames and creating diamond paintings.
10. Last but not the least, How did you feel, while giving this interview?
Pretty good. Sometimes there's a language barrier when I do interviews with people in other countries, but that wasn't the case here. It's nice to stretch outside my regular bubble of readers.
