Author's Interview with Vinod K Gulati.
First, before we move forward with our Author's Interview, I would like to start with an introduction.
1. Could you please introduce yourself to us?
I am a 67-years old author, happily married to Prem Lata with a well-settled family of two children, their spouses, and two grandchildren. Writing is more than a passion for me—it's a medium through which wisdom, honed by age, and insight, sharpened by experience, come alive. Over the years, I've authored ten books: seven dedicated to entrepreneurship, management, and finance, two capturing fictional narratives, and one exploring cultural values. All books are available online.
My professional path has led me through various roles, from project formulation and implementation to freelance content writing and micro-unit consultancy in both the public and private sectors. With a solid foundation in commerce and law, I also practiced as an advocate, offering legal and accounting services. Through my writing, I strive to share my journey and provide readers with valuable, practical insights.
2. Congratulations on your book. So what inspired you to write this book?
India's beauty lies in its unity amidst the rich diversity of faiths and cultures. Many families cherish the tradition of visiting worship places of different communities, showing equal respect and reverence. Growing up, I witnessed my parents visiting both Gurudwaras, the sacred prayer sites of Sikhs, and Temples, the revered places of worship for Hindus, with profound respect.
This inspired me to explore the roots of this deep-seated love and to pen down my experiences, along with the stories shared by my elders and discussed with my co-author. Punjabi Culture & Social Rituals is dedicated to the new generation and to anyone eager to learn about this timeless culture.
3. What is the book all about?
This book vividly portrays the rich traditions, values, and customs of the Punjabi community. This book delves into Punjab’s historical roots, from ancient civilization to the impact of the 1947 Partition, highlighting the development of a unique cultural identity. It explores the essence of daily life, familial bonds, festivals, and architectural beauty, illustrating how traditions have evolved with modern influences. The narrative also examines Punjab’s geographical and demographic landscape, linguistic and literary heritage, and vibrant music and dance culture.
4. Why did you choose this genre for your book?
To know the cultural roots, I prefer to go through the non-fictional narratives.
5. How much time did it take to complete this book?
This book is the culmination of two years of dedicated effort. The first year was entirely devoted to in-depth research, including visits to sacred sites of Sikhism and Sanatan Dharma, as well as insightful conversations with the elders of our society.
6. What makes your Book Special?
The contents of this book are drawn entirely from personal experiences and observations of contemporary life. While it may not serve as an official record, it reflects the realities and scenarios that readers might encounter in their own surroundings.
7. When is your second book coming?
It is my 10th Book. My next book is expected to be published within this month.
8. While writing did you get any writer's block? What is the Tip that you will give others who are facing writer's block?
No Writer’s block. In fact, I often found myself waking up in the middle of the night, compelled to write down the thoughts and insights gathered from the day's discussions. I'd switch on the light and let the words flow effortlessly onto the page. The entire book came together in a natural, uninterrupted stream of creativity.
9. What are your other hobbies besides being a talented author?
Consultancy to the needy for their projects, socio-economic and legal problems and playing with my grandchildren. I participate in the community welfare programs frequently.
10. Last but not the least, How did you feel, while giving this interview?
I believe the questions were thoughtfully crafted, and I hope my replies serve the purpose. I enjoyed it!
