Author's Interview with Paige Morgan.
Before we dive into our exciting conversation with today’s remarkable author, let’s start by getting to know the creative mind behind the diverse and captivating stories.
1. Could you please introduce yourself to us?
I work as a full-time registered nurse, but also have a passion for writing. I've been writing books since I was a child.
2. Congratulations on your book! What inspired you to write it?
I write because of my imagination. I love the process of building worlds and creating characters for them. I would say my biggest inspiration to write is my life experiences as well as the creative people I surround myself with.
3. What is your book about?
Nineteen-year-old Luna is a young but tough prison guard on an Elven planet Nexus. She is ordered to watch over a mysterious and vicious prisoner which unleashes a number of secrets. This catapults her on a journey that she never believed she'd be ready for, a journey full of adversity, loss, friendship, love, and a little bit of magic.
4. Why did you choose this genre for your book?
I have a niche for writing harrowing/dark books. It's just something I enjoy. Having a horror element is fun because it adds twists and thriller type aspects.
5. How long did it take you to complete the book?
two years
6. What makes your book special?
My book has a lot of emotional depth to my characters. Especially when the next two books come out in the series, one will see how much the characters grow/change. I add life experience and hardships to my characters that 'regular' people can face. Yes... it's a fantasy world, but the issues stem deeper than just 'magical make-believe stuff'. I also think my book is special in how it adds a sci-fi element to the fantasy as well as an urban setting. It's unique.
7. When can we expect your next book?
November 2024
8. Did you experience writer’s block while writing? What advice would you give to others who face it?
I did a few times. To me... it depends on the scene that I'm writing. I feel like every author has their own 'likes' and 'dislikes' for writing.
I'm passionate about writing war/battle scenes as well as spooky horror type scenes, and describing scary creatures.
I also enjoy banter-like dialogue.
I do not like certain world-building parts and struggle at times with this as I find it boring in other books if there are 'too many' descriptive words to explain the area they're in.
When I get to parts that are 'slower' in my book I tend to take more breaks, but I still push myself to keep going. I sometimes will stop and hand-write notes and visualize the scenes too. It helps bring my imaginative mind back when it's wanting to sleep.
9. Besides being a talented author, what are your other hobbies?
Weightlifting and reading. I do lots of other things like dirt-biking, skiing, paddleboarding, hiking etc. But on an every day basis you'll catch me in my gym or reading a book on the couch if I'm not working.
10. Last but not least, how did you feel during this interview?
Good! I don't mind answering questions. It's easier than trying to figure out what to say. I don't mind interviews. I feel like if it was in person than I would've been more nervous, but I liked the questions that were asked.
