Author's Interview with Ivy Gilbert
Before we dive into our exciting conversation with today’s remarkable author, let’s start by getting to know the creative mind behind the diverse and captivating stories.
1. Could you please introduce yourself to us?
I was recognized as an Amazon Best-Selling Author and a Next Generation Indie Book Award Finalist for my nonfiction and fiction books. Though I love writing and crafting unique stories, I'm primarily a businesswoman and entrepreneur of forty years, most recently having spent the past fifteen years in the renewable energy industry. I love the challenges of building businesses and writing novels, and I have a relentless commitment to personal growth and spiritual insight, which is why all my novels have a touch of mysticism or spirituality aspects. I love my family (and grandchildren) and I am an avid tennis player.
2. Congratulations on your book! What inspired you to write it?
Like all of my fiction books, it wasn't born on paper but in a dream. I didn't gravitate toward the initial concept, but as the characters and setting unfolded, I found myself falling in love with the story. Unlike most of my writing journeys, where each chapter is a surprising adventure, this one felt different. From the beginning to the conclusion, it was as if the entire narrative was already etched in my memory. Putting it on paper became a process of rediscovery, a chance to share what felt like a forgotten tale.
3. What is your book about?
It's a story about a royal family who must unravel the secrets of their past, and a present where they are forced to confront them. Love, betrayal, and power intertwine as they grapple with a legacy steeped in deception. Ladislav, a young man destined to become Grand Duke, finds his world irrevocably altered by truths so shocking they threaten to shatter the kingdom. He must face a tapestry of lies, revealing one family haunted by the consequences of their actions and another that hides in the shadows. Embroiled in self-discovery, Ladislav must confront the complexities of his own identity, which stretches back decades, where he discovers a legacy of mysticism and deception.
This is a tale of power, sacrifice, and unyielding human spirit. The novel is an epic saga that explores the far-reaching consequences of our hidden actions and our inherited destiny.
4. Why did you choose this genre for your book?
I had never written historical fiction before, and I love a challenge, but as I began this book, the setting and time period seemed to unfold before me. I feel like I didn't choose the genre... it chose me.
5. How long did it take you to complete the book?
From start to finish, this book took me one year to complete, although I took 5 months off from writing as I focused on a business endeavor and the completion of another book. So, in reality, this took about 7 months
6. What makes your book special?
I think you will fall in love with the characters of Ladislav and Asa. But what I found most special about this book was that it is compiled of two timelines.... Lad's and Asa's as well as the previous generation. Yet, like all my books, there is always a hint of mysticism, which adds an unexpected twist to most historical novels.
7. When can we expect your next book?
I never know when the next book will come out, but at the moment, I have four more I want to write, so I'd have to say most likely within 9 months.
8. Did you experience writer’s block while writing? What advice would you give to others who face it?
No, I didn't get any writer's block, but I did take a 5-month break to finish my non-fiction book, Unleash Your Inner She-EO - Become the CEO of your Life and Achieve Success and Fulfillment. I find that if you feel blocked at any time, keep writing... and you can write about anything, it doesn't have to be just the book you are currently working on. The more I write, the less I find I have any blocks.
9. Besides being a talented author, what are your other hobbies?
As mentioned before, I love playing tennis and make time between work, writing, and family to play 3-4 times a week. I'm addicted to it, and it helps to run around a bit after sitting so long at my computer each day.
10. Last but not least, how did you feel during this interview?
I love helping people, so anytime I can give a little insight into areas that might inspire others, I'm excited to do it.
