Author's Interview with Michael Leonard (Medico).
First, before we move forward with our Author's Interview, I would like to start with an introduction.
1. Could you please introduce yourself to us?
My name is Michael Leonard (Medico), but my pen name is Michael Leonard. I am the founder and former CEO of a direct marketing advertising agency and retired after 40 years. I loved what I did for my entire career, transitioning to an author since I retired has become my true calling.
2. Congratulations on your book. So what inspired you to write this book?
I love to read novels especially in the suspense thriller genre. When I decide to pursue my passion and become and author, I looked to write novels that I would enjoy reading myself. I especially like to add the elements of the 'supernatural' or 'science fiction" along with romantic involvements among the main characters. I am also partial to humor, and I like my characters to have a strong values and a good sense of humor.
3. What is the book all about?
“The Serum…To Die and Come Back as gods” The year is 1911 and the two richest men in the world, John D. Rockefeller and Andrew Carnegie, embark on a journey to change the fate of mankind. Their journey begins with the discovery of ancient Egyptian scrolls nearly 4,000 years old and written by scribes for the Pharoh Sekhemib-Perenma. Two thousand years later, Egypt was conquered by the Romans and the ancient scrolls were discovered to be translated by Roman scholars and presented to Emperor Antoninus Pius. As the emperor read of what the scribes had discovered, he would become consumed to finding the secrets the scrolls contained in ‘Et reversus est ad mortem deos’; “To Die and Come Back as gods.” After some initial resistance from Carnegie, he and Rockefeller financed the creation of a secret laboratory in the most remote place on planet Earth, a small rocky island in the Pacific called Point Nemo. Over the years the facility’s staff of the best and brightest researchers, scientists and medical professionals are all working tirelessly seeking to unravel the secrets of ‘Et reversus est ad mortem deos’.
As the decades go by, various boards of directors placed in charge of the Point Nemo facility each with their own agenda. These men and women seek to exert control over the scientist and doctors to test their findings on the many patients who are suffering from terminal illnesses or the worse of fatal disabilities that have no treatment. On the other side of the world, best-selling author Peter Cordell is experiencing writers-block when he receives a very strange call from Mrs. Evelyn Rule. She invites him to spend time at Point Nemo and offers him an assignment to write a historical novel to celebrate the 100th year anniversary of the facility. The progress made in keeping humans alive for an extra 50 to 100 years, perhaps forever has not made any major advancements…and all know they need to find a miracle…they need The Serum.
4. Why did you choose this genre for your book?
I like to write novels of the same genre that Ilike to read...suspense/thrillers with romance. I also like write satire and humor and have written two books in that genre.
5. How much time did it take to complete this book?
There was a lot of research that I was able to include in this book, and it took me about 15 months to complete.
6. What makes your Book Special?
The intricacy of the plot that combines actual historical characters and situations, ancient as well as current medical research and scientific discoveries and the characters that enhance the suspense and thriller related aspects. I've interwoven a love story to bring an additional level of interest and involvement for the reader to relate to.
7. When is your second book coming?
I was in the advertising and marketing field for my entire career. I have completed my latest novel which is a satirical look at the business of television direct marketing and some of the craziness and hilarity of the products and offerings that have become living logos themselves...think "Ginsu Knives". "Pocket Fisherman", "Snuggies" and many more!
8. While writing did you get any writer's block? What is the Tip that you will give others who are facing writer's block?
I've had writers block over the years, especially when writing the novels of my first series, "The Sainted Trilogy." What I used to do is read, reread, write and rewrite over and over again until I was happy with the outcome. Even the slightest of changes had a positive impact on what I had written and that seemed to make it easier to move forward.
9. What are your other hobbies besides being a talented author?
I enjoy gardening, following political discussions, reading and being with family.
10. Last but not the least, How did you feel, while giving this interview?
I have been interviewed in the past and really enjoyed the give and take. I also love when an interviewer throws me a curve ball and I have think about a different approach to my answer. This helps me become a better interviewee!
