Author's Interview with Jennifer Jackson
1. Could you please introduce yourself to us?
My name is Jennifer Jackson. I'm a screenwriter, director, and producer, and I'm also a first-time author.
2. Congratulations on your book! What inspired you to write it?
The inspiration for this book came from conversations with my daughter. We often bounce ideas off each other, and she encourages me to explore different topics. This particular story revolves around a college student who embarks on a romantic relationship with his mother’s best friend, a scenario that sparked a lot of creative ideas between us.
3. What is your book about?
A taboo romance between a college student and his mother’s best friend, Sarah unravels into a web of deceit and violence, leaving both their lives hanging in the balance.
4. Why did you choose this genre for your book?
I chose to explore dark romance because, interestingly enough, I didn’t realize it would evolve into a romance until I reached the tenth chapter. Before the intense love scenes unfolded, the narrative was steeped in suspense and drama, which I found intriguing.
5. How long did it take you to complete the book?
It took me two years to finish writing this novel because I had other projects that needed my attention and delayed its completion.
6. What makes your book special?
My book is special because it marks my first venture into the dark romance genre, a departure from my usual focus on suspense and drama. This novel is filled with unexpected twists and turns that will keep readers on their toes, leading to surprises you won’t see coming.
7. When can we expect your next book?
I’m currently working on a sequel, which I anticipate will be ready by late April.
8. Did you experience writer’s block while writing? What advice would you give to others who face it?
I haven’t personally experienced writer’s block, as my writing process is quite structured and unique. I begin with a detailed outline based on my synopsis, which helps keep my ideas organized. To maintain a steady flow of creativity, I adhere to a writing schedule that allows me to write five days a week, taking weekends off. Each day, I aim to write 500 words, so by the end of the week, I typically have around 2,500 words completed—equivalent to about one chapter.
I also choose to save editing for after I finish the entire book. This approach helps me stay in a creative mindset without getting bogged down by revisions.
For others facing writer's block, I recommend establishing a consistent writing routine and setting achievable daily goals. Outlining your ideas beforehand can also provide a clear path forward, making it easier to dive into writing without hesitation. Remember, the key is to keep writing and not to get too caught up in perfection during the first draft.
9. Besides being a talented author, what are your other hobbies?
As for my hobbies beyond writing, I love reading other books, honing my writing skills, and occasionally indulging in movies on the Lifetime Movie Network.
10. Last but not least, how did you feel during this interview?
