Author's Interview with Stefonknee Wolscht
Before we dive into our exciting conversation with today’s remarkable author, let’s start by getting to know the creative mind behind the diverse and captivating stories.
1. Could you please introduce yourself to us?
Hello, I am Stefonknee Wolscht, I'm a 61 year old Canadian catholic Transwomen and father of seven children. I transitioned from Paul to Stefonknee in 2009, after losing my family because of my gender identity.
2. Congratulations on your book! What inspired you to write it?
After I transitioned, I became homeless, was incarcerated and fell into a deep depression. Isolated and alone dealing with stigma and rejection, I learned a lot about the world and about myself. Holding On by a Thread is my story of overcoming adversity, what I learned as a transgender person and how I worked to make this world a better place.
3. What is your book about?
My book is about how the world perceived the trans community over the past fifty years and how I navigated my way from middle class Paul to homeless Stefonknee over the past fifteen years. It chronicles the changes within society towards trans people and helps the reader to better understand why "Trans Rights" are an important addition to the Carter of Rights and Freedoms.
4. Why did you choose this genre for your book?
I chose to write a memoir so that I could share the intimate details of my struggle to express my true self in a manner that would be a personal experience for the reader to get to know me, not as a transgender woman but as a person and a friend.
5. How long did it take you to complete the book?
It took me seventeen months in total to complete the book, but I chose to set it aside for six months during that time so that I could revisit and edit it with fresh eyes and no expectations.
6. What makes your book special?
I believe that there is a lot of political pressure at this time to reverse the human rights protection that trans community has recently acquired, because of misinformation and fear. Holding On by a Thread is here to help the average person better understand why our community needs their support and acceptance to make this world safer for the next generation.
7. When can we expect your next book?
I'm working on my next book about a perfect world and what it could look like through the eyes of a young trans person if there wasn't stigma and transphobia. It should be ready by the summer of 2026.
8. Did you experience writer’s block while writing? What advice would you give to others who face it?
I did not experience writer's block, in fact I managed to "puke out" the first draft in only three months. I then put it away edited and rewrote it six months later.
9. Besides being a talented author, what are your other hobbies?
I'm also an auto mechanic and heavy equipment operator, and I also love to sew and write poetry.
10. Last but not least, how did you feel during this interview?
