Author's Interview with A.C. Frieden
Before we dive into our exciting conversation with today’s remarkable author, let’s start by getting to know the creative mind behind the diverse and captivating stories.
1. Could you please introduce yourself to us?
I am a U.S.-based thriller author who has been fortunate enough to have spent a lot of time in India.
2. Congratulations on your book! What inspired you to write it?
I was inspired by my frequent travels to India, including the book research I conducted in various places, including several cities: Goa, Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai.
3. What is your book about?
It is an espionage/geopolitical thriller set mostly in Delhi, but other plot twists take place in Ukraine, Washington, D.C., and New Orleans. I typically research each location in person, so that's one of the wonderful things about being an author--experiencing amazing places.
4. Why did you choose this genre for your book?
This is the fourth title in my Jonathan Brooks series. My professional and educational background gives me a unique advantage to write these kinds of legal/espionage/geopolitical novels--I'm an international tech lawyer, private pilot, scuba instructor, and former Swiss Army sniper and molecular biologist (before switching to law).
5. How long did it take you to complete the book?
Too long! This one took me four years to complete. However, I'm speeding things up. I have two new thrillers launching in 2025: LETTER FROM ISTANBUL and DEAD IN THE QUARTER
6. What makes your book special?
Authenticity. I research on-site. I've traveled to odd places to make sure I get it right, including visiting the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and the abandoned city of Pripyat, I've visited North Korea, I've interviewed a wide range of diplomats, journalist, criminals, former spies, detectives, and powerful businesspeople across dozens of countries.
7. When can we expect your next book?
MIDNIGHT IN DELHI was published Nov. 1 this year. DEAD IN THE QUARTER is coming September 2025, and LETTER FROM ISTANBUL in December 2025.
8. Did you experience writer’s block while writing? What advice would you give to others who face it?
Yes, sometimes. There are days I feel creative -- which is when I write as much as I can. On the days when I don't feel so creative, I use my time to compile research, fix plot points, update the story outline, and work with my publisher on future marketing materials. Even with writer's block, there are ways to stay on track and be productive for a book.
9. Besides being a talented author, what are your other hobbies?
I enjoy piloting planes and scuba diving -- two activities that feel very peaceful (and I don't have to answer calls or respond to emails)
10. Last but not least, how did you feel during this interview?
Great! I enjoy interacting with fiction readers because not only do I want to publicize my novels, I also want to bring out the writer in others. The author community is generally very supportive of others who are thinking of writing, so I'm happy to do my part by sharing insights and motivating others. Thank you for the opportunity to share my thoughts in this interview.
