Author's Interview with Jaco Bietje.
Before we dive into our exciting conversation with today’s remarkable author, let’s start by getting to know the creative mind behind the diverse and captivating stories.
1. Could you please introduce yourself to us?
Hey there, I’m Jaco Bietje. I’m a hands-on guy, always have been. I’ve spent years working with my hands, fixing, building, and figuring things out. But beyond just the work itself, I’ve built a business from the ground up and learned more lessons the hard way than I can count. That’s what led me to writing, sharing real, no-nonsense advice with people who want to do the same.
2. Congratulations on your book! What inspired you to write it?
Thanks! Honestly, I wrote this book because I’ve been where so many others are starting from nothing, figuring things out, hitting roadblocks, and pushing through. I didn’t have a playbook when I started my business, and I wish I had one. So, I wrote the book I would’ve wanted back then, packed with everything I’ve learned. If it helps just one person avoid the mistakes I made, then it’s worth it.
3. What is your book about?
It’s a straight-shooting guide on how to build a successful handyman and maintenance business. But it’s not just about fixing things it’s about the business side, too. Pricing jobs, handling clients, marketing yourself, managing finances everything you need to turn your skills into a profitable business. It’s practical, real-world advice from someone who’s actually done it.
4. Why did you choose this genre for your book?
Because this is what I know. I’m not some business professor in a suit I’ve been in the trenches, building a company from scratch, figuring things out as I go. There are plenty of books out there with fancy theories, but I wanted to write something that’s actually useful for people working with their hands and trying to make a living doing what they love.
5. How long did it take you to complete the book?
Longer than I thought! Between running my business, handling projects, and, you know, life happening, it took me about a year from start to finish. Writing isn’t like fixing a leaking pipe there’s no quick solution. But just like in business, you’ve got to keep chipping away at it until it’s done.
6. What makes your book special?
It’s real. No fluff, no corporate jargon, no unrealistic expectations. It’s a book written by someone who’s actually done the work—not just talked about it. It’s filled with practical advice, real experiences, and honest insights that can actually help someone looking to start or grow their own business.
7. When can we expect your next book?
The next one’s already in the works! I’m writing about the first 365 days of running a new company—the raw, unfiltered reality of what it’s really like. The wins, the struggles, the lessons learned in that crucial first year. If you liked Maintain It, this one’s going to be right up your alley.
8. Did you experience writer’s block while writing? What advice would you give to others who face it?
Oh, for sure. Some days, the words just wouldn’t come. But what I’ve learned whether it’s writing a book or running a business s that you can’t wait for motivation to strike. You just have to sit down and do the work. My advice? Treat writing like a job. Set a time, sit down, and even if you only get a few words down, that’s progress. Keep at it, and the words will come.
9. Besides being a talented author, what are your other hobbies?
Appreciate that! When I’m not working or writing, you’ll probably find me building something, fixing something, or figuring out how to make something better. I love working with my hands it’s how I think best. Outside of that, I enjoy a good road trip, anything outdoors, and spending time with family
10. Last but not least, how did you feel during this interview?
Honestly? Like I was just having a conversation about something I’m passionate about. I appreciate the chance to share my journey, and I hope this interview gives people a better idea of who I am and what my book is all about.
