Author's Interview with Tye Justice.
Before we dive into our exciting conversation with today’s remarkable author, let’s start by getting to know the creative mind behind the diverse and captivating stories.
1. Could you please introduce yourself to us?
I am an Australian author. My main focus with my writing is grief, survival, and real life experiences with the aftermath of living with trauma.
2. Congratulations on your book! What inspired you to write it?
I started writing this book at 14 when I was in a very toxic household, and dark place, but didn't finish it until myself had learned to walk away, survive on my own, make so many mistakes while healing as I was in survival mode, and eventually seek help to heal, break the cycle, and create my very own chosen family.
3. What is your book about?
Bitesize follows 23-year-old Cas as she becomes guardian to her teenage sister after sudden loss. Fleeing a small town and buried trauma, they try to start again in the city, until the past catches up and shatters everything. Through fear, sisterhood, boxing, and the quiet love of people who refuse to leave, Cas learns that healing happens in small, survivable pieces. A raw, lyrical story about trauma, resilience, and choosing to keep going, one breath at a time.
4. Why did you choose this genre for your book?
I chose this genre because life isn't about just moving on to happily ever afters, and I hated fairy tales for not showing how the trauma the princesses went through didn't affect them, so I created a character that shows just how messy trauma and loss can really affect someone, and healing is messy, not perfect, and mistakes will be made, but if you just keep going, little by little, getting through cooking dinner, even when you cannot breathe, you will eventually get there.
5. How long did it take you to complete the book?
I started this book at 14, needing an outlet to an already toxic life I didn't want to be living, and after years of messy, mistakes, and healing, I finished this book at 27.
6. What makes your book special?
It is very real, raw, and doesn't sugar coat healing and moving on, with a story that grabs, twists and turns, ups and downs, and a messy chosen family who will always find a way to be there for each other, even in their own battles, it shows true resilience and power when you have your people backing you.
7. When can we expect your next book?
I've started writing book two - Bitesize: Redemption, however it will still be a year off.
8. Did you experience writer’s block while writing? What advice would you give to others who face it?
I did, and the only advice I would give, would be to take a break and do something for yourself where you can switch off. Switching off is just as important as being able to connect to your MC.
9. Besides being a talented author, what are your other hobbies?
I enjoy art, reading, and finding ways to educate children on safety practices. All this on top of being a mum to 2 beautiful children, with twins on the way.
10. Last but not least, how did you feel during this interview?
I was calm, but a little excited to be able to help my book reach more audiences that may only take what they need to find peace or begin their own healing through a very relatable character.
